This was my first attempt at fully composing my own piece. I began by just closing my eyes and thinking of a place or a feeling that I felt very strongly and that I wanted to express through music. I think we all feel a lot of things that are hard to put into words. I wanted this song to be an expression of some of the things I had been feeling, but I also wanted it to be vague enough that almost anyone could identify with it in some way.
I wanted this song to be about freedom. Freedom from fear, guilt, fatigue, too much responsibility and expectations, the limitations of my human body and the weaknesses of my human mind. When I am feeling stressed and weighed down, I like to look up into the clouds, where I can distance myself from all of that heaviness I feel. I wrote these lyrics around the same time my mother passed away from cancer. I had been thinking a lot about where she would be and what it what it would be like there.
The second verse represents letting go of all of those negative feelings and limitations, acknowledging that our loved ones who have passed are always with us and that love and peace are always there if we can find it beneath the burdens we carry.
The last phrase is an invitation. Let go of the burden. It's okay. Love is all that matters. Just love people. Be kind. I hope this song inspires you as it has me. It came so easily to me that I know I had divine help. Yes, we all have big responsibilities and busy lives, but do what you can to simplify and focus on the things that really matter to you. Be kind to yourself and magnify your gifts. Don't try to be something you're not. People will love you no matter what, because we all have worth. We are all fighting a good fight, and it will all work out in the end.
lyrics
Take me to places I've never been.
I want to touch the clouds, dance in the sky.
I know you are there watching me,
Far, far away from here,
The land of my dreams.
I want to fly, travel the endless sky,
Journey on above the sea.
I want to fly, touch the sky,
Take me there.
Fly with me.
Come now. Life is much better here,
Free from confusion, free from pain.
I know life never ends for us.
It just goes on and on,
Into the light.
I can fly, travel the endless sky,
Journey on above the sea.
I can fly, touch the sky,
I am there.
Fly with me.
